HVRemote reduces the manual configuration steps needed for Hyper-V Remote Management down to a few simple commands, and can diagnose common configuration errors.

  • Connection to server

    • I'm trying to connect to the server using Hyper V manager on my laptop win 10. I get a name resolution click Ok and then get the error message:
WinRm-Cilent can't process the request . There is also something about Trusted Hosts as well, that the list is not authorized.

      Can anybody assist please.

      many thanks.

      Regards

      Shaun
    • I got it working on win-10 adding :
after getting the istructions done about hvremote..
-client-side win10: you must enable Windows Remote Management manually on services.msc (I set it as automatic start)
-- Open an elevated powershell console and type: Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Client\TrustedHosts -Value *
      if still not working:
-server-side: try to enable PSRemoting by typing Enable-PSRemoting
-- restart the service Restart-Service WinRM

      Hope it helps!
    • Endry04 hi,

    • Endry04 hi,

I've now got another problem. I tried to start the VM but got this message:

"VM could not be started because the hypervisor is not running"

I have tried "bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto" but that did not help.

      Any ideas please.

      Many thanks.

      Regards

  • Want to Connect Win 10 Client to Server 2012 R2

    • I'd like to add my voice to the group requesting updating your HVRemote tool to work with Windows 10.
      I'm struggling to connect a Hyper-V Windows 10 Client to a 2012-R2 Server.
I ran the tests outlined in the "HVRemote Documentation 1.08.pdf" file, and I can't see any errors. However, I still get the error "You do not have required permissions to complete this task. Contact the administrator of the server".
    • Same issue here and reverting the client to 8.1 is not an option for me.

However, I have found I can manage my Hyper-V 2012 R2 server from a Win 10 Pro PC by using the free version of 5nine Manager: http://www.5nine.com/5nine-manager-for-hyper-v-free.aspx

The free version is limited to 1 Hyper-V server, but this is fine for my home lab.

    • First, check the name of the server (host of hyper-v) really do this, and the host file in Windows/System32/Drivers/etc folder.

Second, try this...NOTE: my host of hyper-v is named "HyperLAB"

      # start WinRM service
      PS> Start-Service WinRM

      # enable the local account token filter policy
PS> Set-ItemProperty –Path HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System –Name LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy –Value 1 -Type DWord

      # now you can add all computers to your TrustedHosts list
      PS> Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Client\TrustedHosts –Value HyperLAB

      - From DOS cmd -

       winrm set winrm/config/client @{TrustedHosts="HyperLAB"}

  • Hyper-V in 2012 DC cluster and client in windows 8 workgroup, but both are in diff network.

    • Hi,
      I have scenario given below.
Hyper-V in 2012 DC cluster and client in windows 8 workgroup, but both are in diff network.
I want to manage hyper-v through windows 8 in workgroup but hyper-v is in diff network and client is in diff network.
I tried following your blog but i am getting "RPC Server unavailable: unable to establish connection between hyperv server and client".
      Please help.
    • That usually indicates a name resolution problem where the server cannot find the IP address of the client. However, unless the networks are effectively completely open without firewalls, NAT, protocol or port restrictions, this will not work as the DCOM callback from the server to the client can happen on a very broad range of ports. Realistically if name resolution is working and /show from the client indicates it can perform basic queries to the server, this is now down to your network administrators to examine where traffic is being blocked.

    • Like several others on this post, I find Hyper-V Server 2014 R2 difficult to configure. There are a few permission problems, including a firewall problem. I managed to disable the firewall and that solved the connectivity problem. The remaining problems have to do with authentication. Any attempt to connect to the Hyper-V Server 2014 R2 fails because of lack of permission. It's difficult to manage permissions without a UI.

    • Hello!

is it possible to make it compatible for Hyper-V 2016 please?

      Thank you
    • My 5 pence...
With four PowerShell commands I have managed to get Win-10 client (workgroup) to talk to a fresh install of WS2016 TP3 (workgroup).
I also used Hyper-V manager from the new RSAT Tools for Win10: WindowsTH-KB2693643-x64.msu

PowerShell commands used on the Win-10 Client (run with Administrator rights):
      Enable-psremoting
Enable-WSManCredSSP -Role Client -DelegateComputer <hypervhostname> -Force

PowerShell commands used on the Hyper-V host (WS2016TP2)(run with Administrator rights):
      Enable-psremoting
      Enable-WSManCredSSP -Role Server -Force

My setup requires that I use the same local account .i.e. 'admin' on both computers (with the same password).
I may have enabled some firewall rules on the hypervhost, don't remember now, it was late at night ;)

  • Any plan to support Windows Technical Preview as client?

    • I find that WTP hyperv manager cannot connect to WS 2012 R2 hyper-v. Hvremote running on WTP says it is not supported. I don't want to use /override option, because WTP introduces new feature in hyper-v management, as may be incompatible with hvremote at all.
    • I have done no work on porting/testing this on Windows 10/WTP at this time.
    • sad to hear about this...
win10 is so attractive that many users will move to it :)
    • I've tested this on Windows 10 now that it has been released and while the script gave no errors, I cannot connect.

Is there any chance of you updating this script now that Windows 10 is released? I'd love to migrate my machines to Windows 10, but I cannot if this means I cannot connect to them anymore.
    • Ignore that: I had to restart Hyper-V Manager on my WIndows 8.1 machine after running hvremote.swf on the Windows 10 machine, but after that it worked.

I've only tested this to connect from one Windows 8.1 machine running Hyper-V Manager to one Windows 10 machine running VMs, but it appears to work as expected.

    • I'm blocked with Hyper-V Manager in Win 10 Pro not connecting to Hyper-V 2012 R2 in a workgroup environment, tried EVERYTHING

Do I have to wait for the release of RSAT for Windows 10? I don't recall needing those with Windows 8.1...

I'll take any help I can get...
    • I have the same issue and maybe it is better to rollback the Windows 10 upgrade...
I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 PRO and use the Windows 2012 R2 core server in a workgroup setup.
